What are the best ways to be creatively inspired, be it for a project or a presentation? If you had to come up with a campaign and you’ve been feeling like your thoughts and ideas have been going in a one-track lane, then you need that little fix that is different from usual.
I have tried several tricks, tested and tried them and I found a few of my favorite methods of gaining creative inspiration. Here are the ones you can try:
#1. Have a sharpie and a sketch book at all times.
Yes. I know. Not all of us are artists and I am surely not one, but having a sketch book to carry around with you is much better than having a regular book to write down your ideas. The moment you see something inspiring, sketch it in your own way, express your thoughts in colors or simply make a story of your inspiration.
#2. Do one thing every week that you are afraid to do
Well, I don’t necessarily mean go bungee jumping or scuba diving, that will definitely give you a lot of inspiration, but, more importantly, do something that you’ve been putting away out of fear, for example, going to a networking event , speaking in public, training for a marathon or taking a tough class. It can be anything that will push you beyond your comfort level.
#3. Keep a journal
Keep a daily diary of at least one fun thing you’ve learnt, experienced, seen or thought about that day. This may sound simple, but try to think outside-the-box of something you see everyday. For example, a circle, maybe list all the circular things you’ve seen in a day, adding a dimension to a very regular object, place or person.
#4. Go out for a walk
This might just be the most common advice given to mankind. Walking and exploring the neighborhood is a great habit; or a walk around the block during lunch time and trying different routes to work or school help with inspiration. Walking and taking in the environment will free you of your mundane thoughts and help you focus on yourself.
#5. Be productive
This one is definitely important. Even if it’s one of the most basic things for the day like replying to emails, you get the sense of accomplishment. That sense of accomplishment helps you to push forward and get more work done for the day. You’ll notice that the more productive you are, the more you are motivated to get more done and it’s a wonderful cycle.
Going to a coffee shop, park or a museum, people watching, traveling, eating at a new restaurant or watching a foreign film, are all different ways I find inspiration for work. If you have a fun way to find inspiration definitely let me know because I’d like to try it.
